Legal Assistance for Victims of Domestic Violence
Alpine serves more than 400 victims of domestic violence annually, including assistance with protective orders, divorce and other family matters.
Jane* fled in late November from abuse that had lasted 15 years. The last beating was so bad Jane feared for her life and left the state with her daughter to stay with family. She was ready to divorce but was confronted with the fact that she had no resources of her own and her husband had retained an attorney.
Jane contacted our office in a complete panic, desperate to maintain primary custody of her daughter who did not want to live with her father. The husband was fighting for primary custody. Our attorney was able to mediate the case avoiding a costly and time consuming trial. Jane did receive primary custody for her daughter and is very grateful for the help she received from Alpine Legal Services. Without our assistance the outcome for Jane and her daughter could have been much different.
Our attorneys help domestic violence victims and other victims of crime resolve important legal matters so they can live in safety and begin their lives again.
